Cultural Perceptions in Web Design

Because colors and images convey information about the organization that create a website,  it the up most necessity that a web designer evaluates the effectiveness or appropriateness of the colors used based on the intended audience.

Certain colors schemes may have different connotations on the Web. for example, color of a specific country flag, may suggest geographic or cultural biases. Images portrayed in one color scheme may convey a different message in another.

As a Web Designer considers the audience, it’s very important to identify the following:

  •  Color combinations that might be attractive or acceptable to specific audiences.
  • Color combinations that may be unattractive to specific audiences or cultures.
  • Symbols, object or objects that may attract or repel an audience.

It’s very important to remember that colors and images that attract one audience might offend another, also a Web Designer must be ready to adopt different perspectives, otherwise the design effects can be less successful.
